Doulas benefit everyone. Such a simple sentence, but it packs so much punch if you think about it. That’s the theme for this year’s world doula week and I love what it means. Everyone. All inclusive. Doulas benefit everyone. At Hope’s Embrace we develop relationships with each woman regardless of income, history, race, or creed. Everyone is promised attentiveness in a judgement free zone that will allow them to make their own informed decisions related to birth.
Did you catch that last part? EVERYONE is promised attentiveness in a judgement free zone that will allow them to make their own informed decisions related to birth. That means if you choose a natural birth, I’ll support you. If you choose an epidural, I’ll support you. If you choose a cesarean, I’ll support you. If nothing goes as planned, I’ll support you. Doulas benefit everyone no matter your choices. I am trained in how to best support you through any choices you may make.
I started Hope’s Embrace because I truly believe doulas benefit everyone. I’ve had the opportunity to work with all kinds of moms: mothers in foster care, having premature babies, being induced, single mothers, and happily married mothers. All of these mothers have benefitted from having a doula and I’ve been honored to attend their births no matter the circumstances.
At Hope’s Embrace we believe in helping young moms by providing support, skills, knowledge and resources to make life decisions. We walk alongside these mothers and provide education through all aspects of pregnancy, birth, and newborn care. There are times when Hope’s Embrace is the only positive interaction these young moms have. There are times when Hope’s Embrace is the only place that has loved on these moms and their babies.
If we are the only positive interaction, we absolutely cannot take the chance of turning someone away because they are unable to pay. If we truly believe that doulas benefit everyone and we can help make a difference in these mom’s life then we must be willing to be there. That’s why Hope’s Embrace was started as a nonprofit. We fundraise, apply for grants, and rely on donations to give these moms services that they may not be able to afford otherwise.
